Bring and Blog for the Beagle!
Thanks to Pharyngula, I came across The Beagle Project, which aims to build a replica of HMS Beagle and recreate Darwin's journey. What a fantastic idea! Cromagnon and I were talking about it last night in Thighmarcester's finest Indian restaurant when the concept of a Bring and Blog Sale hit me between mouthfuls of sublime lamb jeera. Peter McGrath of the Beagle Project likes the plan, which thus far goes like this:
It'll be a cross between a blog carnival and a jumble sale. Anyone can sign up. Blogging participants then make, find, buy, catch, dig up, half-inch or otherwise procure a suitable item, which after a haggling process of their choosing they send to a commenter in exchange for a Beagle Project donation.
I will start work this evening on a knitted Charles Darwin puppet with which the lucky purchaser can discuss future Beagle voyages.
The Bring and Blog Sale will be on Darwin's birthday, Monday 12th February. All aboard!

Great idea!
I'm a knitter, let me know what pattern you use, or if you're just winging it!
HHmmm, sounds like a good idea, and your on Pharyngula, so you should get lots of traffic.
A suggestion for the knitters- how about instead of having multiple Darwins, someone does a finch, and someone does a pigeon, and someone else a turtle?
That way a variety get covered, and you dont have people haggling over multiple Darwins.
Yeah, count me in, fantastic idea. I will come up with something over the weekend (an idea I mean) which will probably be somekind of art work thing and comment again when I have thought.
what a fantastic idea.
I'll be in there bidding for your knitted Darwin
I'm a student working on bachelors in both Biology and Microbiology. I also knit, sew, crochet, bookbind, make jewelry, sculpt, paint and draw. I'm not sure what I'd have time to do before the 12th and in between classes, but I'd like to help.
for some reason this made me cross-associate to Snoopy in his World War I Flying Ace mode.
my mind is odd.
Aw, I've been away and only just seen your comment about this. I'm not likely to get anything finished by Monday but would be happy to do a picture. Maybe a custom creation for someone, as that would make the lateness a positive thing?
That's a great... wait. That's today, isn't it?
Arse, I really should try to keep up.
